PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Borough of Bedford
PA One Call – Flags and Markings
Bedford Borough & Bedford Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania

The Borough of Bedford and Municipal Authority of the Borough of Bedford (MABB) are currently working on two major
projects. The Borough of Bedford and MABB are currently working on a Geographical Information System (GIS), a
system that will provide electronic mapping of streets, water and sewer lines, and other useful information that will
eventually be made available to the public via the internet. MABB expects to begin a major project in September 2019
to upgrade the existing water distribution system and sanitary sewer system due to aging infrastructure. Most of the
utility replacements are to occur within the Bedford Borough limits, with small portions of the project occurring in
Bedford Township.

As part of the design for these projects, it was necessary to have all utilities throughout the project area marked and
located through the Pennsylvania One Call System (PA 1 Call). Prior to construction of the water and sewer system,
these lines will once again be marked and located before the contractors begin to excavate. If the current paint marks
and marking flags remain in place, it will make this process move more swiftly. It is understood that it may be necessary
to remove flags currently in grassy areas to properly maintain lawns. If this is done, you are not required to put the flags
back into place. These flags will be re-set when the next round of locations is performed prior to any construction. It is
preferred that the next round of markings remain in place until the construction is completed. The project is expected
to last approximately 10 months, with final restoration to be completed approximately one year after construction has
been completed.

Please contact the Borough Office at (814) 623-8192 if you have any questions.
